Dosing & Administration Guide

Wegovy must be administered exactly as prescribed by your medical professional. It follows a strict monthly escalation schedule to allow your body to adjust to the medication:

  • Frequency: Inject your dose exactly once per week, on the same day each week. It can be taken at any time of day, with or without meals.
  • Injection Sites: Administer subcutaneously (just under the skin) into the front of your thighs, the front of your abdomen, or your upper arms. Rotate your injection site each week.
  • Dose Escalation: You will start on a low dose (0.25mg) for the first 4 weeks. Under clinical supervision, your weekly dose will gradually increase every 4 weeks through 0.5mg, 1.0mg, and 1.7mg, up to the maintenance dose of 2.4mg.
  • Pen Storage: Unopened pens must be kept in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C). Never freeze them. Once in use, the pen can be kept at room temperature (below 30°C) or in the fridge for up to 6 weeks.

Important Clinical Safety Details

Before initiating Wegovy, you must read the statutory patient safety warnings and verify your medical suitability during our clinical assessment.

⚠️ Contraindications & Side Effects
  • Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, and mild abdominal discomfort are common during the initial titration phase. These usually subside as your body adjusts. Stay hydrated if you experience gastrointestinal symptoms.
  • Serious Risks: Discontinue treatment immediately and seek urgent medical attention if you experience severe, persistent abdominal pain radiating to your back, as this may indicate acute pancreatitis.
  • Exclusions: Wegovy is strictly contraindicated if you or anyone in your family has ever had Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC), or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). It cannot be used alongside any other GLP-1 medications or during pregnancy/breastfeeding.
