Clinical Information
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, a first-in-class dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist licensed for weight loss and weight maintenance in the UK. By activating two distinct metabolic hormone pathways, it helps regulate blood sugar, suppresses appetite, and reduces food cravings far more comprehensively than older single-hormone treatments. It must be paired with a balanced, calorie-controlled diet and increased physical exercise for optimal results.
Tirzepatide (Dual Action Weekly Injection)
BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related medical condition.
Delivered in temperature-controlled, fully discreet packaging.
KwikPen Administration & Dosing Schedule
Mounjaro is administered using a multi-dose KwikPen device. Each pen contains four pre-set weekly doses. You must strictly follow the month-by-month titration pathway under clinical guidance:
- Timing: Inject exactly one dose once a week, on the same day every week. It can be taken at any hour of the day, with or without food.
- Injection Technique: Inject subcutaneously into the abdomen (at least 5cm away from the belly button), the front of the thighs, or the upper arms. Rotate your injection site with each weekly dose.
- Dose Progression: Your treatment path starts at 2.5mg once a week for the first 4 weeks to introduce the medicine to your system. Your weekly dose is then increased under prescriber approval every 4 weeks through 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, up to a maximum maintenance dose of 15mg.
- Storage Protocol: Keep all unused, unopened KwikPens stored safely in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. Once a pen is actively in use, it may be kept at room temperature (under 30°C) for up to 30 days, after which any remaining fluid must be discarded.
Important Patient Safety Details
Please review these mandatory UK patient safety criteria carefully. Your medical history will be thoroughly cross-checked via our digital assessment before dispensing.
- Gastrointestinal Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhoea, and constipation are common, particularly when first starting or moving up to a higher dose. Eat smaller portions and stay hydrated to help manage these symptoms.
- Pancreatitis Alert: If you experience severe, continuous, and persistent abdominal pain that radiates through to your back, stop using Mounjaro immediately and seek urgent emergency medical attention.
- Thyroid & Family History: Mounjaro is strictly contraindicated if you or anyone in your family has ever been diagnosed with Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
- Contraception & Pregnancy: Tirzepatide may temporarily alter the absorption of oral contraceptives during titration. Women using oral birth control pills are advised to use a barrier method (such as condoms) or switch to a non-oral contraceptive for the first 4 weeks of starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
