Tadalafil Tablets (10mg & 20mg)

Tadalafil tablets (10mg & 20mg) offer effective relief for erectile dysfunction by improving blood flow and sexual performance.

Tadalafil — the generic alternative to Cialis

Erectile dysfunction, or ED, is incredibly common. In the UK, it’s estimated that 4.3 million men suffer from the condition. So, if you’ve experienced ED, you’re definitely not alone. Luckily, there are some great treatments out there that can help men to effectively overcome ED. One of the most popular is Tadalafil.

Tadalafil is a prescription-only medication that’s designed to treat erectile dysfunction. It’s the generic equivalent of Cialis, a brand-name product popular with men around the world. Tadalafil works in the same way as Cialis, but because it’s generic, it’s more affordable. This makes the medication a good choice for men who want an effective ED treatment and great value for money.

What Is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is classed as the inability to get or keep an erection that’s firm enough for sex. There are lots of things that can cause or contribute to erectile dysfunction, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Low testosterone
  • Depression
  • Alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Heart disease

While some men may only experience ED occasionally, others may struggle to get an erection every time they try to have sex. As ED can be a sign of an underlying health condition, it’s important to talk to a medical professional if you suffer from erectile dysfunction on a regular basis.

Treating Erectile Dysfunction With Tadalafil Once Daily Tablets (2.5mg & 5mg)

Tadalafil works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, increasing the blood flow and making it easier to achieve an erection during sexual stimulation. Both Tadalafil 2.5mg and 5mg tablets are designed for people who have regular sex (two to three times per week) and consistently experience ED.

If you’re prescribed Tadalafil 2.5mg or 5mg, you’ll need to take a tablet once a day at roughly the same time. This will ensure the level of Tadalafil in your body remains topped up, so you’re able to achieve an erection when you become sexually excited. There are alternative versions of Tadalafil that contain a higher dosage (10mg or 20mg). These are more suitable for men who have infrequent sex or only experience ED occasionally.

How Long Does Tadalafil Once Daily Take To Work?

Because the dose in Tadalafil Once Daily tablets is relatively low, it may take a few days before it builds up enough in your system to be effective. In most cases, you’ll be prescribed Tadalafil 2.5mg to start with. If you tolerate this well, your doctor may increase your dose to 5mg.

If you’re planning to have sex on a specific day, a higher dosage may be more suitable. If you’re prescribed a 10mg or 20mg tablet, you’ll need to take it around 30 minutes before you have sex.

What Are The Side Effects Of Tadalafil?

Like all medications, Tadalafil does come with a number of potential side effects. The most common are:

Headaches
Nausea
Hot flushes
Indigestion
Blocked nose
Muscle aches
In most cases, these side effects are mild and will resolve themselves when you stop taking the medication. If you’re concerned about side effects of Tadalafil Once Daily, talk to a member of our medical team or speak to your GP.

What Are The Alternatives To Tadalafil

Tadalafil is one of the most popular medications for men experiencing ED. But there are a number of alternative options currently available. As different medications suit different people, you may need to try a few out to find the product that’s right for you.

The main alternatives to Tadalafil are:

  • Viagra (also known as sildenafil)
  • Vardenafil
  • Spedra (also known as avanafil)

Tadalafil vs Viagra

Sold generically as sildenafil, Viagra is one of the best known ED treatments on the market. Viagra works faster than Tadalafil, taking effect in just 30-60 minutes where Tadalafil takes 30 minutes to two hours to become active.

One of the main reasons that men choose Tadalafil over Viagra is that it lasts longer. In general, Tadalafil works to enable erections for up to 36 hours, while Viagra lasts for 4 – 6 hours.

Viagra works best when taken on an empty stomach, while Tadalafil can be taken with food.

Tadalafil vs Vardenafil

Originally sold under the band name Levitra, Vardenafil works in a similar way to Tadalafil.

Vardenafil generally takes around an hour to work and its effects will last 4 – 6 hours, far fewer than the 36 offered by Tadalafil. Like Viagra, Vardenafil needs to be taken on an empty stomach.

Tadalafil vs Spedra

Spedra (known generically as avanafil and sold as Stendra in the US) can get to work in as little as 15 minutes and its effects can last up to 6 hours. This makes it a good option for men who want results fast. Tadalafil on the other hand takes a little longer to get going, but provides much more enduring results. Spedra can be taken with or without food.

How to take Tadalafil 20mg tablets

The maximum dose of Tadalafil is one 20mg tablet per day. Do not repeat the dose or take any other ED treatments within 36 hours of your initial dose.

Tadalafil 20mg tablets are designed to be taken on an ‘as required' basis — only take them if you expect that you’re going to need help achieving an erection within the next 36 hours.

Tadalafil tablets may be taken either with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole and if needed, use water to wash it down.

Always avoid or limit the use of alcohol while using Tadalafil.

Which strength of Tadalafil should I choose?

Tadalafil tablets are available in a variety of different strengths. The strength you choose will depend on how you want to use it — the two main ways to take Tadalafil are as an ‘as required’ dosage or as a continuous daily dosage.

  • Tadalafil 10mg & 20mg (the ‘as required’ dose) — the recommended starting dose for Tadalafil as an ‘as required’ medication is 10mg, taken at least 30 minutes before sexual activity. From there, the dose may be increased to 20mg or decreased to 5mg, depending on how your body reacts. It's important to note that Tadalafil should not be taken more than once per day.

Tadalafil's 10mg and 20mg strengths are formulated for occasional use and can remain active for up to 36 hours, making them an excellent choice if you engage in sexual activity less than twice a week or cannot predict when you'll next have sex. These strengths provide you with the flexibility to achieve an erection only when you need it, without requiring daily medication.

  • Tadalafil 2.5mg & 5mg (Tadalafil Daily) — For individuals who engage in sexual activity more frequently or want to be ready at all times, Tadalafil is also available as a continuous daily medication.

The recommended starting dose for daily Tadalafil is 2.5mg, which can be increased to 5mg based on the individual's response. This method of dosing is ideal for individuals who have sex at least twice a week and want to be able to achieve an erection at any time.

Tadalafil tablets contain: 10mg or 20mg (depending on the strength) of Tadalafil as the active ingredient.

The inactive ingredients contained in Tadalafil tablets are: Lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium, hydroxypropyl cellulose, sodium lauryl sulphate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate.

Tadalafil side effects

Tadalafil is generally well-tolerated, but like any medication, it can cause side effects in some people. Here are some potential side effects to be aware of when taking Tadalafil:

  • Headache
  • Flushing
  • Back pain
  • Muscle aches
  • Nasal congestion
  • Indigestion or stomach upset
  • Diarrhoea
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Blurred vision or changes in colour vision
  • Sudden loss of hearing or ringing in the ears
  • Priapism (a prolonged and painful erection that lasts longer than 4 hours)
  • Allergic reactions, including rash, hives, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

If you experience any of these side effects while taking Tadalafil tablets to treat erectile dysfunction, it's important to contact your local GP or pharmacist. In some cases, they may recommend adjusting your dosage or switching to a different medication.

In rare cases, Tadalafil can cause serious side effects such as low blood pressure or vision loss, which require immediate medical attention.

Tadalafil drug interactions

Tadalafil may interact with other drugs, and some of these interactions can be harmful. These include:

  • Nitrates: Taking Tadalafil with nitrates, such as nitroglycerin, can cause a sudden and dangerous drop in blood pressure.
  • Alpha-blockers: Tadalafil may increase the effects of alpha-blockers, such as doxazosin and terazosin, which are used to treat high blood pressure and prostate enlargement.
  • Antihypertensive drugs: Tadalafil can enhance the effects of antihypertensive drugs, leading to a significant drop in blood pressure.
  • Antibiotics: Tadalafil can interact with certain antibiotics, such as clarithromycin and erythromycin, leading to increased levels of Tadalafil in the blood.
  • Antifungal drugs: Tadalafil can also interact with some antifungal drugs, such as ketoconazole and itraconazole, leading to increased levels of Tadalafil in the blood.
  • HIV protease inhibitors: Tadalafil can interact with some HIV protease inhibitors, such as ritonavir and saquinavir, leading to increased levels of Tadalafil in the blood.
  • Grapefruit juice: Grapefruit juice can increase the levels of Tadalafil in the blood, leading to an increased risk of side effects.

What does 20mg of Tadalafil do?

A 20mg dose typically takes effect within an hour of ingestion and helps you to achieve and maintain an erection by improving blood flow to the penis. The effects of Tadalafil 20mg will last for up to 36 hours.

How many hours does 20mg of Tadalafil last?

Tadalafil 20mg tablets remain active in the body for up to 36 hours, making them ideal for use on an ‘as required’ basis. This does not mean that you’ll have an erection for 36 hours; it simply means that you’ll be able to achieve and maintain an erection when sexually aroused during this period.

Is Tadalafil safe?

Tadalafil was approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in 2003, and is considered safe to use by most people. However, there are certain circumstances where you should not take Tadalafil. These include:

  • If you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed.
  • If you have low blood pressure.
  • If you have heart, liver, or kidney problems.
  • If you are taking medication containing nitrates.
  • If you are taking medication for your heart, or for the treatment of epilepsy.
